Tseng Sheng-guang

Also know as as Jonathan, Tseng was of Taiwan indigenous descent, and the first East Asian soldier to have been matyred in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He was 25 years old when he was KIA in the Luhansk Oblast.

A corporal in the Republic of China Army until his honorable discharge in 2021, Tseng was awarded the the top indigenous honor, First-class Professional Medal, posthumously by the ROC Minister of Council of Indigenous peoples when his ashes were returned to Taiwan in 2022. In 2023, Tseng was one among nineteen others awarded the Order for Courage of the third class for their self sacrificing performance in the line of duty by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"Sheng-guang Project" to continue the humanitarian aids of civil society donations in cooperative initiatives with East European states to assist Ukrainian refugees, medical, transport and power system reconstruction need was announced by the ROC Ministry of Foreign affairs in late 2023 in honor of the fallen hero.
